Advanced Marker Intelligence & Production-Ready Export for Final Cut Pro

Chapter Tool Pro

Chapter Tool Pro is a professional macOS application designed to transform Final Cut Pro markers into structured editorial intelligence.

Built for editors, assistant editors, and post-production supervisors, it extracts and organizes every marker within a project — including those inside compound clips and multicam sequences — and converts them into clear, production-ready reports.

More than a chapter generator, Chapter Tool Pro bridges the gap between timeline annotations and real-world post-production workflows.

Why Chapter Tool Pro

Final Cut Pro allows you to place markers across your timeline, but it does not provide a structured way to extract, analyze, filter, and report them — especially when markers are embedded inside nested elements.

Chapter Tool Pro ensures that no marker remains locked inside the timeline. It provides:

  • Full FCPXML parsing with frame-accurate timecode calculation
  • Extraction of markers from compound clips and multicam containers
  • Structured categorization (Chapter, Standard, To Do, Done)
  • Professional export options for YouTube, CSV, and TXT
  • Search, filtering, merging, and editing tools
  • Deep metadata reporting beyond what Final Cut Pro natively exposes

Core Engine & Technical Precision

Chapter Tool Pro is built on a dedicated FCPXML parsing engine engineered for structural accuracy and stability. It includes:

  • Accurate interpretation of compound clips, multicam structures, and transition offsets
  • Frame-accurate timecode normalization aligned with Final Cut Pro's internal logic
  • Robust validation in metadata-dense or complex timelines
  • Optimized compatibility for projects created in Final Cut Pro 11.x
  • Support for FCPXML up to version 1.13

This ensures consistent and reliable reporting across even the most complex editorial environments.

Professional Marker Categories

Markers are automatically organized into four professional categories:

  • Chapter — Standard chapter points
  • Standard — General reference markers
  • To Do — Incomplete tasks
  • Done — Completed items

These categories enable precise workload tracking and departmental communication. With dynamic filtering, you can isolate specific categories — for example exporting only "To Do" markers for a focused revision session.

Nested & Multicam Marker Support (Pro Feature)

Final Cut Pro does not display markers embedded inside compound clips or multicam angles directly on the main timeline. Chapter Tool Pro resolves this limitation.

When "Show Nested Markers" is enabled, the app extracts and consolidates markers from:

  • Compound clips
  • Multicam sequences
  • Optional unused multicam angles

This provides complete project visibility and ensures internal annotations are not lost during reporting or delivery preparation. For YouTube exports, nested markers are excluded by default to preserve platform compatibility.

Advanced Controls

Chapter Tool Pro includes professional workflow tools:

  • Text Search — Instantly filter markers by content
  • Merge Function — Combine consecutive markers into a single entry (titles automatically truncated at 99 characters)
  • Expand / Collapse View — Manage long production notes while keeping the interface readable
  • In-App Marker Editing — Modify marker content directly via the integrated editing panel

These tools allow you to refine your reports without returning to Final Cut Pro.

YouTube Export with Automatic Validation

The "Copy for YouTube" feature performs automatic health checks before export:

  • Verifies the presence of a marker at 00:00:00
  • Ensures a minimum of three chapters
  • Validates minimum 10-second duration per chapter
  • Offers rounding modes: Safe Start (round down) or Nearest Second

This guarantees compliance with YouTube's chapter formatting requirements before copying to clipboard.

CSV & TXT Reporting for Professional Workflows

Beyond YouTube, Chapter Tool Pro provides advanced reporting formats designed for real production environments.

CSV Export

Ideal for:

  • Editorial revision reports
  • VFX and color reference lists
  • Producer or client documentation
  • Spreadsheet-based analysis in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers
  • Metadata archiving outside the NLE

Each row clearly separates Timecode, Marker Title, and Category.

TXT Export

Designed for:

  • Change lists
  • Spotting sheets for sound designers
  • Clean documentation delivery
  • Cross-platform compatibility

Rounding precision can be applied in TXT exports as well. In the Pro version, CSV and TXT reports can include nested markers, offering a level of metadata visibility not natively accessible from Final Cut Pro.

Professional Workflow

The process is simple and structured:

  • Import your .fcpxml or .fcpxmld file
  • Select the desired sequence (if multiple projects exist)
  • Filter, refine, search, or merge markers
  • Export to YouTube, CSV, or TXT

If a file contains no valid sequences or markers, the app flags the issue instead of loading empty data.

Technical Specifications

  • Requires macOS 15.5 or later
  • Fully optimized for Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs
  • Compatible with projects created in Final Cut Pro 11.1 and earlier
  • Supports FCPXML up to version 1.13

Privacy & Security

Chapter Tool Pro operates within the macOS sandbox environment.

  • It only accesses FCPXML files explicitly opened or dropped by the user
  • It does not collect, transmit, or analyze project data
  • Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored via the Mac App Store
